More Info:

The Sir Douglas Quintet was an American rock and roll band formed by the late great Doug Sahm with longtime friend Augie Meyers in San Antonio, Texas in 1964. With their first hits, they achieved success in their home state and the band then relocated to the West Coast coinciding with the emerging psychedelic rock scene of the mid 1960s centred on San Francisco. The quintet were exponents of good-times music with strong roots in blues and Texas-regional traditions. The band's songs were notable for the instantly recognisable organ sound of Augie Meyers' Vox Continental. Sahm is considered one of the most important figures in what is identified as Tex Mex music. Proficient on multiple instruments, he would later co-found The Texas Tornados with Augie Meyers, Freddy Fender, and Flaco Jimenez as well as Los Super Seven. This 5CD compilation represents the Sir Douglas Quintet's entire recorded output for the Mercury record label.
